Essential Duties

1. Financial Analysis and Reporting: Present financial information and recommendations thru data analysis and reporting in the development and maintenance of budgets. Identify funding issues and develop appropriate solutions. Review and approve reports for administrative actions including pre-award costs and no-cost extensions. Analyze data and develop complex analytical reports for principal investigators including trend analysis, forecast future financial scenarios, develop long range projections, and variance analyses. 2. Proposal Development: Develop proposals and budgets for grant and contract submissions; coordinate with partnering institutions. Ensure compliance with sponsor regulations and University policies and procedures. Advise principal investigators of new funding opportunities and requirements. 3. Portfolio Management: Plan, organize and prioritize actions across multiple awards and investigators' portfolios. Ensure appropriate charging of expenses and integration of data. Advise and counsel principal investigators on financial issues and recommend alternative spending strategies, manage renewals, extensions and closeouts of grants, including final financial reporting to the sponsor. Analyze and negotiate budgets, contracts, and terms and conditions of research proposals. 4. Compliance and Risk Management: Responsible for providing appropriate guidance on compliance matters during management of portfolio and collaborates with account holders to maintain such compliance. Review, interpret and effectively apply sponsor policies on a variety of topics including cost allowability, budget management and other award management activities to ensure compliance with sponsoring agency requirements and University policies and procedures. 5. Collaborative Finance Partner & Lead: Provides a high-level of service that maintains strong working relationships by interacting with faculty and internal and external contacts, such as the School of Medicine, Office of Research Administration and granting agencies by managing the internal pre award proposal process and the management of sponsored funding. 6. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree required. Two years of related financial experience required. Demonstrated application of financial, accounting and economic concepts.

Position Focus:

Under the general direction of the Associate Deans of Student Research, this position will support the Office of Student Research mission within the Department of Medical Education. The position works closely with OSR leadership, and both internal and external colleagues to formulate and enact strategic plans related to OSR's funding sources (NIH T35 training grants, GA-sponsored stipend funds, and endowments). The position develops, implements, and maintains operational policies and procedures related to these funding sources and manages the related program communications thereof. A key responsibility of the position will also include the tracking of all NIH T35 training grant activities and regularly informing leadership of progress, as well as recommending structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. The position will also be responsible for developing metrics to identify and measure the success of the medical student research program; assisting in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributing to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission of grant updates (progress reports), financial status reports, procurement and collating of required data, and contributing to the writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. The position will also ensure OSR's compliance with federal reporting requirements by performing regular data collection from internal Yale systems such as ITGHUB and external systems as NIH Commons, Xtrain, Xtract, MyNCBI, and other search engines to achieve continual monitoring and regular reporting that is sufficient to meet evolving and expanding NIH requirements. The role will maintain and analyze these data for submission in Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs) and competing renewals.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

In-depth knowledge of Yale University policies and procedures. Previous Sponsored Award financial management in an academic medical center, Workday and ITG HUB experience, as well as experience with or ability to gain mastery of external systems such as MyNCBI and eRA Commons.
