Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of a degree, four (4) years of full-time directly related experience, or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four years may be considered. Three (3) years of full-time facilities management experience or related field. Plumbing experience. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred qualifications:

Two (2) or more years of directly related plumbing experience. Prior experience at a University or similar facility. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with a BMS and/or work order system. Collective bargaining experience. Experience supervising trade staff. Working knowledge of OSHA and/or Building code experience.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Plumbing Manger will be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the plumbing department. Responsible also include related activities such as the development and management of personnel, material, work scheduling, labor reports, and contracts. The Plumbing Manager will meet with individuals and groups associated with the University in dealing with facilities issues as they develop. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must. Responsible for emergency response and coordination in critical situations, including after hours. This selected candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintenance of University Campus Buildings, sewage and water mains:
  • Plans, organizes and supervises the maintenance, repair, renovation and modifications of the University's plumbing, sewage and water mains. Manager plumbing staff. Plan work assignments, ensure that all aspects of the assignment are provided, including work schedules, material, equipment, and workforce. This should be done in the available resources. Assignments may be completed in the most efficient, economical, and timely manner possible. Responsible for emergency response in critical situations. Participate in contract negotiations for maintenance contract services.
  • During the winter months, act as backup to the University Snow Manager.
    * Manager and Supervisor Trades Staff:
    * Supervisor employees in accordance with State and University policies, including but not limited to recruitment, training, termination, discipline and performance evaluations. Administer applicable union labor agreement and grievances. Oversee planned time off and monitor all unplanned time off of staff to ensure adequate coverage of all shifts.


    * Inspections:
    * Complete periodic and special inspections of all west campus plumbing, sewage and water mains. Determine the need for work to be done and recommend areas where improvements can be made. Document all inspections within the department's CMMS system and submit work orders.


    * Safety and Quality Controls:
    * Develop and implement safety and quality control measures. Ensure that health care regulations, I.E., OSHA, JCAHO, DOH and fire codes (and other code regulations that may apply) are in place and all personnel are compliant. Ensure proper use of materials and schedules are met and work is performed according to instructions.


    * Analyze facility's needs:
    • Analyze facilities needs and recommend areas where improvement can be made. Assess service provided in order to ensure that Facilities Operations effectively supports the University, instructional, research and public service program. Identify and advocate for projects beyond available resources in order to provide continued improvement and growth of the University.
    • Develop and manage the department budget and monitor expenses. Assist with different maintenance projects, including projects dealing with building maintenance, carpentry, electrical, roofs, weather events, campus emergencies, and etc.
      * Other duties:
      * Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.





      Special Notes:

      This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

      Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.

      * Out-of-State Applicants: Please note as a condition of employment and in order for this position to be tendered, the successful incumbent will be required to provide evidence of a valid license and driving abstract from the state issuing the license within five business days of a conditional offer and must obtain a NYS driver's license within 30 days of acceptance of offer.

      In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulation that all hospitals and nursing homes "continuously require all personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19," Candidates who are not already vaccinated must obtain the first dose of the vaccine within three (3) calendar days of acceptance of conditional job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with the vaccine protocol. Candidates who are partially vaccinated, but not yet fully vaccinated, must complete their vaccination series within three (3) calendar days of job offer or in accordance with vaccine manufacture protocol, whichever comes later.

      The regulation also includes those who may be affiliated with or interact with employees of a hospital or nursing home. The regulation allows for limited exemptions with reasonable accommodations, consistent with applicable law.
