Common Ground is Seeking a Campus Safety and Security OfficerIMMEDIATE VACANCYAbout Common Ground High School Common Ground High School is the nation's longest-running environmental charter high school, founded in 1997. Our 225 students form an inclusive, powerful community of learners and leaders. We work toward this mission through active, authentic learning rooted in justice and our environment: a farm, in a forest, in a city.About the PositionWe are seeking a dynamic, passionate, effective Safety and Security Officer. Common Ground offers full time employees a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision and life insurance. This position is represented by our Collective Bargaining Agreement with UAW local 2110. Salary for this position is on Scale I. Placement on that salary scale will take prior, relevant work experience in consideration.Responsibilities: The Security Officer supports, and works closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing a quality instructional program to continuously improve student achievement. The Security Officer will:Patrol and monitor campus to maintain student safety, order and security; Unlock doors and other entry points; Respond to disturbances, behavior problems and related situations; Search backpacks, vehicles and lockers for alcohol, weapons, drugs and drug paraphernalia as directed by an administrator and according to established procedures and policies. Monitor break areas, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, and parking lots; Escort students to the office, a designated safe area, or bus stop for disciplinary action as directed; Write referrals according to established guidelines and site practices; Report unusual activities or unauthorized persons on campus to appropriate school staff;Assist in the investigation of incidents or illegal activities; Cooperate with law enforcement personnel as necessary;Monitor unattended classrooms during the temporary absence of a certificated teacher or administrator;Cover designated Independent Study and In-School Suspension rooms when needed;Perform related duties as assigned; Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
