Job Description Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (LICH)
POSITION TITLE : Landlord Engagement Specialist REPORTS TO: PHA
Coordination Manager JOB SUMMARY The LANDLORD ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST
(LES) is responsible for coordinating with the Long Island
Coalition for the Homeless--- staff and housing providers in order
to assist homeless singles and families in identifying appropriate
housing opportunities. The LES is required to maintain
relationships with landlords, private and non-profit, who will work
with DSS/LICH clients. The LES will work collaboratively with the
LICH team, as well as with representatives from local Department of
Social Services, PHA---s, landlords and other pertinent
stakeholders related to identifying housing stock, negotiating
leasing, coordinating housing placements and maintaining
relationships. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Conduct regular housing searches
using online tools, contacting realtors, researching local
listings, etc. Provide housing availability to the organization---s
team in an efficient and timely manner. Coordinate with CES
Team/staff (and, as appropriate, RRH program staff) to
schedule/assist families as needed during their move into permanent
housing. Such assistance may include accessing rental assistance
money, donated furnishings, coordinating with volunteer movers, and
coordinating transportation. Maintain knowledge related to housing
rentals, such as tenant rights and responsibilities, housing
discrimination, communicating with landlords and others. Maintain
documentation of housing contacts and other pertinent information
in accordance with agency and best standard practice. Work with the
CES Team/Staff to assist clients on the housing waitlist (through
Coordinated Entry) to explore alternative housing options and
overcome barriers to housing. Work with clients to understand their
needs and conduct housing searches for appropriate units for them.
Maintain a Housing Directory which should, at minimum, include
documentation of all contacts with housing providers including:
corporation name if applicable, name of contact, address, phone,
date of contact and results of contact EDUCATIONAL AND OTHER
REQUIREMENTS Candidate possess a Bachelor---s degree in human
services, education, communications or related field. Experience
with providing services to the homeless population preferred.
Experience in housing searches, developing relationships with
business owners, landlords and realtors is essential. Experience
with providing services to the homeless and low-income population.
Ability to maintain relationships with LICH CES and Case Management
Staff, Landlords, Property Owners, DSS, and other Non-Profits.
