Job Description:

As a senior member of the Materials Science and Technology group in Packaging, collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and external vendors to facilitate design, evaluation, optimization and qualification of materials in category packaging and new technology platforms. Introduce innovative materials for luxe packaging application. Employ subject matter expertise in compatibility review of product formulation against primary packaging elements in contact with product such as plastics and decoration. Work in close collaboration with key internal teams including R&D chemists, product development, package development, package engineering, package testing/analytics and creative. Recommend types of plastic/material based on type of molding and application.

Lead material selection for packaging in the assigned category (such as skin care, make-up, hair-care, fragrance, bath & body, etc) by recommending suitable material based on formula product composition, anticipated interaction, required packaging functionality and type of molding required to form the package (40%)

  • Drive high level of scientific creativity and problem solving agility by demonstrating understanding of product implications, compatibility risks, molding / processing issues and guide solutions accordingly (20%)
  • Partner in the development process and qualification of advanced materials with R&D chemists, category packaging and external vendors. Conduct benchmark studies of material candidates, compositions, material structures, and concepts for beauty industry (10%)
  • Carry out proof-of-concept experiments by conducting product-package interaction studies, and sample characterization. Transfer lab scale outcomes to production partners for scale-up (15%)
  • Co-develop new materials for packaging with suppliers, universities, etc. based on current challenges, consumer insights and brand vision. Thereby, develop intellectual property to protect material science developments and secure a competitive position for the organization (10%)
  • Coach / mentor, and cross-pollinate subject matter expertise in materials across category packaging and R&D. (5%)

Demonstrated expertise and extensive hands-on experience in materials characterization and plastics properties

  • Experience with compatibility review of packaging materials with formulation.
  • Ability to use advanced analytical techniques for material structure and property determination; demonstrated expertise in obtaining and interpreting composition-structure-property relationships.
  • Ability to explain data and results clearly, and communicate effectively
  • Strong aptitude for problem solving

PhD in Materials / Polymer Science / Plastics Engineering

English- verbal and written; including scientific style of communication and reporting

Concentration (education or experience) in plastics properties and Non-wovens.

2 Years Minimum Experience

15% Travel Time
