Accountable and responsible for the following results:The Intake Specialist is responsible for completing intakes and coordinating initial referrals and services with partners. Works as a team member with the agencies at the HOPE Family Justice Center of Greater New Haven.Responsible to greet all clients coming to the HFJC and ensure that they are assisted in completing all necessary documents as well as understand the contents and context of the documents before signing.Review all available services with clients and link them to partners for scheduled appointments or the selected partners for services. Generate required forms, reports and any other documents used in the intake process using electronic record system. Respond in a timely fashion to inquiries and request from supervisor and partner agencies. Assist with data collection for presentations and reports. Attends pertinent meetings as requested by the HFJC Site Manager. Provide trauma informed emotional support to help victims understand feelings and behaviors in response to abuse and specific ways to build self-esteem and coping strategiesMaintain and enhance professional proficiency by participating in continued education and workshops designed to enhance skills and understanding of family violence issues.Attends training sessions, workshops, seminars as requested by supervisor, or as needed for professional development, or as required for accreditation or licensingRequired to use own vehicle on company business or to transport clientsRegular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this positionPerform other assignments and duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor's Degree requiredTwo years Advocacy and/or direct service experience working with survivors of domestic violence in a community-based setting preferred.Must be able to attend required training during first week of employment, which is Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Must be able to obtain and maintain the domestic violence counselor certification per CGS 52-146K before providing direct service to clients, followed with six-hour recertification.Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Must demonstrate oral and written skills.Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and be able to use trauma informed interviewing techniques.Knowledge of community resources and ability to utilize and work with program partners.Crisis intervention and counseling skills.Strong Written Communication skills.Excellent customer service skills.Must be proficient with PCs, Microsoft Office Word, Outlook and Excel.Must have and maintain a valid CT driver's license, if relocated to CT as a state resident more than 30 days ago. Also, must maintain an acceptable driving record and be insurable at a reasonable rate under the Organization's auto insurance plan.
