Health and Welfare Council of Long Island - Summer
The Health and Welfare Council of Long Island, based on Long
Island, NY, is a nonprofit umbrella agency that convenes the
nonprofit sector on Long Island, leads various coalitions, provides
direct services work to Long Islanders, and works on policy and
advocacy matters impacted Long Islanders in need. HWCLI convenes a
disaster planning and response coalition (called the Long Island
Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster - LIVOAD), which has
activated in response to COVID-19. This coalition is comprised of
over 100 health and human service partners across the region,
committed to working collaboratively to address the myriad needs
that emerge related to disasters. In response to the needs
identified from this work, HWCLI is working to address the various
needs of clients across Long Island by providing navigation
services and also nutritional security in the form of a meal
delivery program. Summer Associate VISTAs will gain tremendous
experience in a fast-paced nonprofit organization committed to
improving the lives of Long Islanders impacted by COVID-19 and the
economic impact of the pandemic. Applicants should be
self-starters, eager to serve, critical and creative thinkers, and
have excellent communication skills with the ability and comfort to
interact with a wide variety of populations. Further help on this

Member Duties : Summer Associates will work on our COVID-19 work
by developing educational materials, helping promote and educate
various populations on HWCLI programs to ensure these programs are
accessed by those who can benefit from them, provide preliminary
education and referral services, and help with a meal delivery
