Campus New Haven

Overview We seek a full-time renewable appointment at the level of assistant professor in any humanities-based approach to Digital Media and Communications starting in August 2021. Unlike the usual 4/4 teaching duties of faculty at the College, this position entails partial teaching duties (1/1) combined with extensive student advisement and mentoring (75%), with an increased percentage of teaching responsibilities after three years. This new position has been developed as part of the Colleges commitment to develop and implement a holistic approach to student advising. The successful candidate will teach one academic course per semester as well as a course related to student development. While we are open to backgrounds in any humanities-related discipline, strong preference will be given to those whose academic research and teaching experiences substantively address issues pertaining to the kinds of diversity reflected in our student body and the challenges they face both in college and in society. Some examples of preferred fields include humanistic approaches to Media Studies, New Media Studies, Digital Media, Digital Humanities, Communications, and Cultural Studies. There will be opportunities to assist in new program development in these fields. In order to best serve our students, the primary duties of this position will involve mentoring and advising undergraduate students with the goal of helping them to engage more successfully with their academic and extracurricular activities, more fully understand and negotiate career pathways, and increase their levels of satisfaction, academic stability, and rates of degree completion.
