This Director & Actuary I role is responsible for leading and
managing the actuarial group that models pharmacy formulary changes
for the Value Assessment Committees (VAC). Formulary changes are
one of the largest pharmacy Cost of Care opportunities for Anthem
that directly impacts all lines of business (Commercial, Medicaid
and Medicare). Reliable cost projections are key to meeting our
pharmacy financial goals.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
Manages a team of actuaries to deliver reliable, thorough cost
projections under a range of modeling scenarios for monthly VAC
Responsible for the technical accuracy of actuarial models,
which includes (1) understanding of PBM economics and (2) working
cross-functionally with different business groups (clinical,
rebates, operations, etc.) to build out key assumptions. A strong
push to improve efficiency and accuracy of modeling is a constant
Supports requests for internal constituents (such as Cost of
Care) and external customers where appropriate.
Conducts and analyzes experience studies, validates pricing
assumptions and monitors the consistency of company practices and
Responsible for decisions determining priority of work
assignments, appropriateness of actuarial and statistical analysis,
determining actuarial soundness of modeling.
Strong verbal and written communications skills are required as
this role co-leads the monthly VAC prep calls and provides
actuarial insight on assumptions and results during the VAC calls
Candidate must be proactive and persistent, be comfortable
speaking publicly and have a well-documented ability to navigate
Hires, trains, coaches, and develops direct reports.
Requires a BA/BS in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics
or related field; ASA/MAAA required; 7 years of related experience
is also required.
Prior management experience and prior pharmacy experience
May participate in the Actuarial Program.
