PRINCIPAL SOFTWARE ENGINEER, VIDEO PLAYBACK FULL TIME EMPLOYEE LOCATIONS: NEW YORK CITY OR BOULDER, CO FULL TIME CONTRACTOR LOCATION: REMOTE RELOCATION PACKAGE AVAILABLE The MLB Web Media team is responsible for live/on-demand video playback across Major League Baseball ( MLB.com )/MLB Team Sites (30), Minor League Baseball ( MILB.com )/MILB Team Sites (256) and Partner (YES Network, SportsNet New York (SNY), USA Baseball, etc.) sites. The team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead our overall video playback strategy and execution. The Principal Software Engineer will have the following responsibilities: Responsibilities Provide engineering, production support/troubleshooting, solutioning and guidance to playback partner integration teams. Effectively communicate with product and engineering stakeholders. Effectively communicate with multiple cross-functional teams (Engineering, Product, Ads, Analytics, QA, Infrastructure, etc.), lead technology discussions and articulate roadmaps. Support requirements analysis by translating high level feature requirements into technical playback capabilities. Work independently with little supervision across multiple roles (Engineer, Architect, Playback Product Owner, etc.). Required Experience 10 years of overall software development experience. 5 years experience with multiple video playback/player technologies (HLS.js, Shaka Player, etc. ). Expertise in modern Javascript (ES6, etc.). Solid experience with modern Javascript technologies, libraries and frameworks: React, Redux, Typescript, Node.js, Webpack, etc. Solid Experience with HTML/CSS. Experience working within an Agile environment (referencing user stories, participating in sprints, daily scrums and retrospectives). Excellent communication skills. Preferred Experience Experience with video (ABR) streaming and playback: HLS, DASH. Experience ads (DFP, Freewheel) and analytics (Conviva, Adobe/Omniture) integrations. Experience with MSE/EME functionality and specifications. Experience with source code management/continuous integration (CI): GitHub, BitBucket. Knowledge with continuous delivery (CD): Jenkins, Bamboo. Experience with multiple programming languages. Experience with cloud-based tools and technologies. Experience with object-oriented programming (OOP) and SOLID principles.
