Job Description:
Job Description The fitness for duty evaluator will conduct
on-site assessments of employees suspected of impairment while on
duty. This includes administering field sobriety evaluations,
breath alcohol tests, and drug screen collections in accordance
with company policy, regulatory standards, and confidentiality
requirements. The evaluator will support a safe and compliant
workplace by providing timely, objective assessments and detailed
documentation. This is a great opportunity for professional
experienced in occupational health, safety, or law enforcement who
want flexible per-diem work supporting a strong safety culture. Key
Responsibilities: • Respond to calls for fitness for duty on an
as-needed basis including off hours, as our facilities operate
24/7. • Conduct standardized field sobriety testing to assess
potential impairment. • Perform or collect breath alcohol and drug
screen tests following Department of Transportation (DOT) and
non-DOT procedures, ensuring chain of custody integrity.
Breath-Alcohol (BAT) Collector certification required. • Document
findings accurately and objectively using the approved reporting
forms. • If employee refuses to submit to breath alcohol and or
drug screen utilize field sobriety testing and documented
observations to determine if the employee is fit or unfit for duty.
• Maintain confidentiality of all testing results and employee
information. • Communicate professionally with supervisors, HR, and
safety personnel regarding evaluation outcomes. • Ensure all
testing equipment is properly calibrated, maintained and secure. •
Participate in training and quality assurance activities to ensure
compliance with company and regulator standards. Qualifications: •
Current certification as a Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) and Drug
Screen Collector (DOT-qualified). • Experience conducting fitness
for duty or reasonable suspicion exams in occupational or clinical
or law enforcement setting. • Background in occupational health,
safety, nursing and or law enforcement strongly preferred. • Strong
interpersonal and communication skills; ability to handle sensitive
situations discreetly. • Must be able to work on call or as needed
hours, including nights or weekends. • Valid driver’s license and
reliable transportation to respond to workplace locations
(Stratford, CT; Bridgeport, CT and Shelton, CT locations).
