Job Description:
Yale-New Haven Hospital is one of the Top 10 largest hospitals

Medicine’s primary teaching hospital. The Smilow Cancer Hospital at
Yale-New Haven Hospital is designated as a Comprehensive Cancer
Center by the National Cancer Institute, one of only 41 in the
country. The Section of General Surgery, Trauma and Surgical
Critical Care combines cutting-edge clinical care, education and
training of future surgeons, with the most advanced research to
improve the management of critically ill or injured patients. The
Section has three clinical missions. - Trauma cares for all trauma
patients admitted to Yale-New Haven Hospital, which is the regional
Level 1 Trauma Center for Southern Connecticut and the only trauma
center in the state to be verified by the American College of
Surgeons for both adult and pediatric patients. - Surgical Critical
Care manages all critically ill surgical patients through its
critical care services (the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and the
Intermediate Care Unit). - Emergency General Surgery treats
patients with surgical emergencies both in the Emergency Department
and in the hospital. These clinical missions are performed by a
dedicated group of surgeons who provide around-the-clock, in-house
coverage 365 days a year. In addition to its clinical
responsibilities, the Section has a strong dedication to education.
The Section trains two Critical Care Fellows per year, one Acute
Care Surgery Fellow, as well as residents in surgery, anesthesia
and emergency medicine, medical students, nurses, and pre-hospital
providers. Finally, the Section is also involved in multiple facets
of clinical research, with ongoing clinical trials in several

typical ACS practice - Elective surgery encouraged but not required
- 90% clinical if academic clinician, 80% clinical if clinician
scientist educator track - Expected call requirements between York
Street Campus and Saint Raphael Campus - Expand the academic
profile of the program in education and if desired clinical
research. Qualifications: - Research and/or education program
development experience - Residency in general surgery and
fellowship in surgical critical care /- acute care surgery -
Research/Publication background preferred - Board certified/Board
eligible Licensure: - Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of
Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or foreign equivalent - Unrestricted
license to practice medicine in Connecticut, or willing to obtain
