Job DescriptionUnder general supervision, assumes accountability
to plan and provide direct professional nursing care for specified
patients during his or her assigned shift as defined by population
and unit. Provides nursing services to patients and families in
accordance with the standards of practice of a professional nurse,
CCMC policies & procedures, Joint Commission, and State & federal
regulations. Reports to Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations
Leaders.ResponsibilitiesCLINICAL PRACTICE:
- Demonstrates clinical expertise and uses the nursing process to
provide safe, appropriate patient care to a defined patient
population according to CCMC and unit policies and standards.
- Competently cares for all patients in med-surg and float
assignments in the ICUs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the population-specific differences
and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from
neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice.
Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with
patients/families and co-workers.LEADERSHIP AND MENTORING:
- Delegates duties and tasks associated with patient care to
clinical staff according to hospital policy and their scope of
practice.
- Participates in the professional development of others through
preceptor/mentor activities and positive role modeling.
- Supports the department's work productivity and resource
management activities.DOCUMENTATION/COMMUNICATION:
- Completes all required documentation in a timely manner.
- Effectively communicates all information to members of the
health care team.PATIENT/FAMILY PARTNERSHIP & EDUCATION:
- Partners with child and family in evaluating outcomes.
- Monitors and evaluates patient/family responses to
treatment.
- Provides and documents appropriate education to patients and
families regarding all aspects of care according to CCMC policies
and standards.QUALITY AND SAFETY:
- Identifies safety concerns and barriers to optimal patient care
and brings issue forward to appropriate leadership staff.
- Holds self and others accountable to unsure patient
safety.
- Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the
organization through behaviors that are consistent with the
Connecticut Children's behaviors and leadership
competencies.QualificationsEducation and/or Experience Required:
- A minimum of ASN/ADN required upon hire, BSN preferred. If
ASN/ADN, must acquire BSN within 3 years of hire.Education and/or
Experience Preferred:
- Experience Preferred: Minimum 2 years of experience working as
a RN in a pediatric clinical setting.License and/or Certification
Required:
- Current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse Licensure
required and maintained thereafter.
- American Heart Association, or American Red Cross, Healthcare
Provider CPR/BLS certification required upon hire and maintained
thereafter.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months
of hire.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training certification
required within 3 months of hire and maintained
thereafter.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge:
- Theories, principles, techniques and practices of professional
pediatric nursing.
- Organizational policies and proceduresSkills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability
to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a
diverse community.
- Basic proficiency in utilization of personal computers;
Utilizes computer and telecommunication technology to facilitate
multifaceted communications.Ability to:
- Work individually and within teams.
- Make clinical and procedural decisions using the nursing
process.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.

collaborative team of highly trained and experienced emergency
medicine team members that provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary
pediatric care to children from birth to 22 years of age. Our 47
bed pediatric ED has an annual volume of approximately 62,000
visits and is designated by the American College of surgeons as a
Level 1 Pediatric trauma center. Connecticut Children's earned the
2023 Best Children's Emergency Care Award for receiving a perfect
score for the level of care and expertise offered in our Emergency
