The Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare (SSW) invites
applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor position to begin
Fall 2023. This is a 10-month appointment.
Stony Brook University is an internationally renowned public

in the Health Sciences Center on the Stony Brook University campus,
is home to a collegial academic community committed to building a
more equitable society based on the values of human dignity,
inclusiveness, diversity, equality, and on economic, gender,
environmental, racial, and social justice. SSW's interdisciplinary
research and community engaged relationships involve
interorganizational partnerships from a wide variety of sectors
(from community-based organizations to departments of health and
social services) and academic disciplines (ranging from medicine
and engineering to humanities).
The SSW's distinguished faculty include educators and researchers
whose areas of expertise span a wide range of practice-oriented and
policy-relevant areas including: disability; gender; intervention
research; the social determinants of health and mental health;
structural racism; environmental justice; immigration; criminal
justice; trauma, behavioral health and addictions public health
issues in the criminal justice system; social work in higher
education; fatherhood among low-income and incarcerated men; and
intimate partner violence, among other areas. The SSW has an
enrollment of approximately 700 students in its BSW, MSW, and PhD
programs with curricula grounded in a student-centered and
evidence-informed pedagogy. As a School that offers professional
degrees, we are committed to ensuring our curriculum and research
efforts map to the most pressing, current, and emergent issues in
our society. As a School of Social Welfare of a SUNY Flagship, the
SSW is committed to building workforce capacity and to meeting the
needs of the State of New York. We are seeking to hire a Clinical
Assistant professor to join our vibrant and engaged community, who
brings a background of post-MSW practice experience, and an
inclusive, active, student-centered orientation to their approach
to social work education.
Qualifications
Required: Applicants must have an LMSW, a minimum of three years
post-masters social work practice experience and a minimum of two
years of relevant social work teaching experience.
Preferred: An earned doctorate or ABD in social work or a related
field; five years of post-masters social work practice experience;
three years of relevant social work teaching experience; experience
serving as a field instructor for social work students in an agency
setting; and prior full-time experience in an academic institution.

illustrate a translational commitment to inclusion, equity,
diversity, and social, gender, environmental, racial and economic
justice.

In response to the New York State Department of Health (DOH)
regulation requiring Hospital and Nursing Home personnel to be
