Job Description

  • Provide interventional coaching through implementation of sustainable Screening Brief Intervention and Referral Treatment (SBIRT) for patients with alcohol and substance abuse
  • Collect and enter customer information in customer database
  • Identify patients who need further assessment or treatment for substance abuse disorders
  • Conduct motivational discussion sessions to access patient's desire for behavioral change
  • Refer patients requiring more extensive treatment to appropriate resources
  • Interface with treatment team members
  • Interface with community organizations pertaining to referrals and discharge planning
  • Interface with the County and State pertaining to available services and needs for patients

    Job Requirements & Qualifications

    • Credentialed as an alcoholism and substance abuse counselor (CASAC) within NYS
    • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or a related field
    • Master's Degree preferred
    • Minimum of three years' experience working in a position focused on serving those with addictions.
    • Minimum of two years' work experience in substance abuse counseling, health coaching, or related field
    • Experience in a hospital or outpatient clinical setting is preferred
    • Working knowledge of statistical analysis software (SAS, SPSS) preferred

      In accordance with federal and state regulations that all hospitals and nursing homes require personnel to be vaccinated against COVID-19, candidates who are not already fully vaccinated must obtain the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine within three (3) calendar days of acceptance of a conditional job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with that particular vaccine manufacturer's protocol.       All Hospital positions maybe subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary.--- -
      This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.--- -

      This function/position maybe designated as "essential." This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and related facilities. -

      Prior to start date,---the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: -

      Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton's Employee Health Services* -
      Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen* -

      Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings. -
      Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). -

      Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer. -


      *The Human Resources department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination. -

      Given StaffCo's employment responsibilities, it is deemed the "employer" for employment and labor law purposes.--- Thus, the employees are private sector employees of StaffCo, not public sector employees of SUNY.--- The private sector nature of the StaffCo employees has been approved by NYS Civil Service and upheld in a decision by the US National Labor Relations Board.---
