Training Program Details
Duration: 6 weeks (Monday - Friday)
Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Course Description
At the Long Island State Veterans Home, our 6 week Certified
Nursing Assistant Training Program consists of the following:
4 weeks of didactic instruction
1 week of supervised resident care
8 days of learning lab instruction
During the first 4 weeks, the Certified Nursing Assistant Training
Program will cover 7 instructional units. The 7 instructional units
are:
Introductory Curriculum
Basic Nursing Skills
Personal Care Skills
Mental Health and Social Service Needs
Care of Cognitively Impaired Residents
Basic Restorative Services
Residents Rights
The above are instructed with the core values for all healthcare
employees. The core values that the care and services provided in
the facility must demonstrate are:
The dignity and worth of each resident as an individual
Respect for the range of diversity of individuals
Demonstration of a therapeutic relationship
The State-approved NATP requires that each nursing assistant
trainee receive a minimum of 100 clock hours of training comprised
of at least 70 hours of actual classroom and lab training time plus
30 hours of supervised clinical training time with residents in a
nursing home.
Pre-screening will be done to determine eligibility for an on-site
interview.
