A combined Instructor and Mentor for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP)for the first 12 months while they transition to practice on the Nursing Team. Delivers UAP seminar content, facilitates clinical reflections and coaches and mentors in the clinical setting. The RN provides care that: * Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family encompasses an understanding and integration of cultural and diversity into practice * Includes communicating and working collaboratively with the patient, family and health care team members * Includes respecting the patient's values, preferences, expressed needs and knowledge of the healthcare situation in holistic data collection, in formulating health care outcomes and in the evaluation process. Delivers lecture content prepared by a subject matter expert and/or Nursing Professional Development Specialist, utilizing appropriate adult learning principles with energy and enthusiasm. 2. Provides input to curriculum based on experience, knowledge and feedback from participants and informs program manager of needs, problems, and other pertinent events when appropriate. 3. Facilitates clinical reflections to support UAP transition to practice including problem solving, relationship building and communication. 4. Establishes relationships with UAP unit preceptors to form a trusted positive alliance to support the new UAP. 5. Takes proactive approach, anticipates problems and acts to avoid the escalation of problems. 6. Written and verbal communications are complete, timely, appropriate, clear and accurate. 7. Completes required UAP program documentation and evaluation forms. 8. Escalates concerns to the grant program manager to problem solve expediently. Qualifications EDUCATION Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. EXPERIENCE 2-5 years of RN clinical practice in healthcare; preceptor experience preferred. LICENSURE Licensed and a currently registered nurse in the State of Connecticut. SPECIAL SKILLS Excellent communication skills. PHYSICAL DEMAND Requires prolonged standing; walking; use of sight, hearing, and touch. May be exposed to infectious diseases. Will be exposed to physical, mental and emotional illness as well as end of life conditions and death. Moderate stress and risk of injury from patient care. Standing/walking for more than half of the day. Frequently bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting and lifting. Must be able to assist pushing/pulling/lifting patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds. Travel across the YNHHS to various hospital sites as needed. Additional Information Must have 2-5 years of clinical practice Excellent communication skills. Part time position. Schedule: day/flexible with nights as needed Co-terminus with funding.
