supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs a wide range of
routine clinical laboratory analyses in all major sections of the
Microbiology Laboratory. Recognizes routine problems, identifies
causes, synthesizes alternatives, and applies solutions. Confirms
and verifies results through an in depth knowledge of techniques,
principles, and instrumentation. Correlates and interprets data
based on knowledge of technical, instrumental, and physiological
conditions affecting test results. Participates in the laboratory
Quality Control and Quality Assurance

Competency - Demonstrates technical competency by performing a
variety of routine clinical laboratory analyses to ensure that
microbes present in clinical and environmental specimens can be
grown and accurately identified.1.1 After initial orientation is
proficient in the interpretation of bacterial and mycology
cultures, the interpretation of testing results and identification
of bacteria, yeast, and mold isolates. Competency is evaluated
through direct observation, internal and external proficiency
samples, and clinical error report with two (2) or less analytical
errors reported.2. Communication/Documentation/Computer Skills -
Provides for the accurate reporting of laboratory results to ensure
continuity of patient care by demonstrating computer,
communication, and documentation skills.2.1 Reports and saves
significant organisms required by the State Health Department,
Epidemiology, and CDC. Independently pursues unusual culture
results that warrant further physician information or
consultation.3. Independence/Initiative - Demonstrates self
reliance in one's thinking and action. Demonstrates independence by
one's ability to evaluate culture integrity, problem solving, or
trouble shooting instrumentation.3.1 Recognizes problems and
situations that are inconsistent with good patient care. If able,
resolves them on ones own. Provides follow up to supervisor or
designee on all problem situations in Microbiology so that a quick
and appropriate action can occur.4. Professionalism - Demonstrates
professionalism at all times both in attitude and approach to work
activities. Attempts to work well with all members of the hospital
staff and our customer base. Demonstrates a commitment to personal
career growth in the fields of Medical Technology and
Microbiology.4.1 Demonstrates a commitment to personal career
growth and competency by completing at least 12 Continuing
Education Units per year. This can be in any number of formats
including but not limited to laboratory presentations, webinars
related to laboratory medicine and extra-curricular education
opportunities that have been approved by management.
QualificationsEDUCATIONBachelor of Science Degree in Medical
Technology or equivalent with MT (ASCP) certification or
equivalent.EXPERIENCEOne (1) or two (2) years experience in an
accredited Clinical Laboratory.LICENSUREMT (ASCP) certification or
equivalent.SPECIAL SKILLSWorking knowledge of equipment,
instrumentation, and materials used in the Clinical
Laboratory.PHYSICAL DEMANDMust be able to tolerate PPE required to
