responsible for the generation of new nursing knowledge. Oversight
of nursing research studies from inception to dissemination.
Supports and engages clinical nursing staff in the research

strategic vision and direction for nursing research and
evidence-based practice in collaboration with Yale New Haven
Hospital nursing leaders, Nursing Professional Governance Councils,
and the Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Committee2.
Provide leadership for the Yale New Haven Hospital Nursing Research
and Evidence-Based Practice Committee and the Yale New Haven Health
Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Steering Committee3.
Implement and update YNHHS research and evidence-based practice
policies in collaboration with the Yale New Haven Health Nursing
Research and Evidence-Based Practice Steering Committee and senior
nursing leaders4. Provide leadership for the infrastructure that
advances the scholarly work of nurses and fosters a spirit of
scientific inquiry, the generation of new knowledge through
research, and engagement in the use of best evidence to optimize
improvements in the safety and quality of nursing practice and
patient care5. Advance the professional practice of nursing by
supporting nurses? engagement in the use of best evidence for
practice decisions, implementation of practice innovations, and
conduct of research6. Ensure evidence-based practice and research
projects are aligned with the Nursing Strategic Business Plan and
are conducted within the framework of the Nursing Professional
Practice Model and the Iowa Model Revised: Evidence-Based Practice
to Promote Excellence in Health Care?7. Mentor nurses from all
levels of the organization through all phases of the research
process for studies designed to examine various aspects of health,
illness, and health care to improve health, health care services,
and health care outcomes8. Ensure that research conducted by nurses
involving human participants is conducted in accordance with
applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and ethical principles
such as those outlined in the Belmont Report and institutional
policies of Yale University (Yale New Haven Hospital?s
Institutional Review Board) and Yale New Haven Hospital9. Perform
the required functions of a voting member of one or more of Yale
University?s Institutional Review Board panels that convene monthly
and/or as needed10. Select, prepare, advise, and supervise research
mentors to guide nursing research projects11. Implement educational
opportunities to assure that nurses develop necessary knowledge and
skills to implement evidence-based practice projects and conduct
research studies12. Secure internal and external funding for
project work13. Mentor nurses through the internal and external
dissemination of project results (writing abstracts and manuscripts
for publication, creating posters and oral presentations for local
and national professional conferences14. Provide leadership for the
translation of new evidence into practice based on the results of
studies conducted by nursing research teams15. Lead by example
through personal scholarly work16. Collaborate with affiliated
schools of nursing to explore and formalize opportunities to
enhance academic-partnerships related to faculty and student
evidence-based practice/quality improvement and research
projects17. Collaborate with University faculty and other health
professionals in research curriculum development for staff and
students18. Ensure that nursing research projects meet the
empirical outcomes and other Magnet? re-designation requirements of
the New Knowledge, Innovations, and Quality Improvement domain19.
Maintain a central repository of research projects by tracking
progress of nursing research protocols and dissemination of
scholarly work through publications and presentations
QualificationsEDUCATIONGraduate of accredited school of nursing.
PhD required.EXPERIENCEMinimum of five years clinical practice
required and has demonstrated ability to conduct research and
publishLICENSURERegistered nurse licensed to practice in the State
of ConnecticutSPECIAL SKILLSMust possess and demonstrate
progressive leadership skills, effective verbal and written
communication skills across disciplines and excellent
