Summary:

The Director of Operational Excellence will be responsible for developing and executing a focused effort to improve operational effectiveness and profitability for the Curia Albuquerque site. This role will partner with the Site Leadership Teams to develop and lead a performance transformation to improve operational excellence, and systems and overall drive a continuous improvement culture. This person will be measured annually on his/her ability to enhance a continuous improvement culture and his/her development and execution of cost reduction initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement cost improvement projects through operational efficiencies. Develop policies and define the standards for group manufacturing excellence. Establish an OEE program to track, identify and eliminate lost production causes.
  • Conduct diagnostics to identify areas for improvement. Conduct value stream mapping exercises to define processes; work with the site to implement or streamline/improve the use of LEAN tools, 5S, Six SIGMA, etc. Propose and support the projects and programs within the businesses for the identification of improvement levers, setting smart objectives, and carrying out Manufacturing Excellence programs.
  • Support the execution of improvement projects by promoting the use of proven tools and approaches to achieve manufacturing excellence. Ensure sufficient focus on sustainability of improvements through providing training and skill-building of leaders. Support continuous improvement culture in major US Curia sites and at the corporate level.
  • Lead and mentor leadership team members, facilitating a culture that motivates employees. Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or services. Participate in self-development activities and training of others.
  • Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices. Protect employees and visitors by maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Work closely in conjunction with US sites and the Director of OE (US) to implement improvement initiatives. Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business or as requested.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Manages subordinate Directors/Managers who supervise employees in the Technical Operations, SWAT, Manufacturing, Engineering, Maintenance, and EH&S Departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises one non-supervisory employee. Carries out supervisory and managerial responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws.

    Education and/or Experience:

    Bachelor's degree with strong operational excellence experience with 10+ years of FDA-regulated industrial experience, plus five (5) years in a professional management role. Extensive previous experience in the implementation of OE/CI projects in a manufacturing FDA-regulated environment. Proven experience with Lean Six Sigma experience to drive business results. Ability to lead and respond to changing environments.

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Computer Skills:

    Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access, as this individual will perform work within these systems on a routine basis.

    Other Skills and Abilities:

    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to organize a time to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities. Ability to read, understand, interpret and implement technical writing and instructions.

    Technical/Analytical: Six Sigma Processes, project management, leadership, and change management. E ffective interpersonal relation skills, while maintaining the adaptability to achieve company goals. Verbally expresses ideas and facts in a clear, logical, concise, and accepted grammatical style.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Incumbents may be required to obtain/qualify for and maintain the clearance to wear a respirator at a "class B" level or above following OSHA mandated guidelines.

    Work Environment:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of radiation, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
