hours to be worked:37.5Position Focus:Reporting directly to the
Department Associate Director with accountability to the Vice Chair
of Research, the Research Manager assists in developing the
Department's research goals and activities supporting its research
strategy. On behalf of the Department, coordinates with different
functions of the research management continuum (pre-award/YPAT,
post-award/IBO, OSP). Maintain continuous process improvement to
ensure operational efficiencies and sound business practices.
Develop, implement, and maintain research management tools specific
to the Department.
Key responsibilities will include: -
- Working with the Department Associate Director and the Vice
Chair of Research, the incumbent plans, monitors, and assesses the
needs and activities to accomplish strategic research goals.
- Provide leadership and strategic direction in developing the
Department's research goals.
- Acts as a liaison with the IBO post-award team, YPAT pre-award
team, Office of Sponsored Research, and other relevant YSM and YU
research functions.
- Directly oversees the Departmentally based research staff,
including clinical trial coordinators, lab manager, pre-award
coordinator, research associates.
- Identifies and monitors external and internal factors
influencing the Department's research mission and goals.
- Plans for financial and non-financial resources required to
achieve research goals.
- Oversees lab space allocations in conjunction with Vice Chair
of Research and Lab Manager.
- Develops Department wide research related policies and
guidelines with Department Leadership.
- Implements solutions to problems that are routine to complex
and that affect multiple functional areas of responsibility across
the research management continuum.
- Collaborate with the Department and the IBO team to prepare
required reports and deliverables including monthly dashboard.
- Create research narrative and assist with presentation to
leadership. Monitor Blue Ridge metrics and other rankings.
- Provide Administrative oversight to Surgeon Scientist Training
Program (SSTP).
- Act as a coordinator of the Department's research activities,
such as Research Day and Departmental Awards.
- May perform other duties as assigned.1. Keep abreast of laws,
regulations, external and internal policies and procedures
governing the administration of grants and contracts and serve as a
resource to faculty and staff. 2. Interprets and consistently apply
Federal, State and agency specific policies, procedures and
guidelines to individual issues as they arise and ensure
consistency with University policies and procedures. 3. Recommends
and draft changes to University and department policies and
procedures. 4. Fosters good communication within the team and
between the team and its customers. 5. Ensures that key personnel
are compliant with Conflict of Interest, Human Subject, Animal,
Safety, HIPAA and other training mandates. 6. Anticipates evolving
data needs and pro-actively lead. 7. Creates and runs a large
inventory of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
for faculty and departmental staff, typically to support research
proposal preparation or to support ongoing sponsored projects. 8.
Manages the planning, development and implementation of new or
revised internal standard operating procedures. 9. Acts as a
resource and liaison to other University departments. 10. May
perform other duties as assigned.Required Education and
ExperienceMinimum requirement of Bachelor's Degree in related field
and six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of
education and experience.Required Skill/Ability 1:Well-developed
managerial, decision-making, planning, organizational,
problem-resolution and leadership skills with the ability to manage
people on a day-to-day basis and inspire a high level of commitment
and performance.Required Skill/Ability 2:Demonstrated ability to
manage time and resources effectively, measure and monitor progress
and redirect efforts as needed and anticipate changes in the
business environment and proactively manage change.Required
Skill/Ability 3:Excellent written and oral communication skill with
the ability to adapt communication style and negotiate skillfully
to address the needs of individuals at all levels throughout the
