Reporting to the Deputy Director of the MacMillan Center and supporting MacMillan's 25+ programs, the position works effectively and collaboratively with the Center's leadership across Yale including the Development Office and grants management teams to coordinate communications, fundraising, and outreach opportunities with other internationally focused units (i.e. Jackson, Economic Growth Center, ISPS, Yale's leadership programs; World Fellows program; Office of International Affairs; Graduate School graduate exchange programs, etc.) to maximize Yale's influence on the global stage and in academic circles.

The Senior Director will lead the MacMillan Center's voice towards an increasing emphasis on inclusivity, diversity, and regional representation in conversations of utmost global topical relevance while maintaining our reputation for global interdisciplinary scholarship - for example in topics ranging from innovation and scaling to gender and violence to slavery and human trafficking. The Senior Director will have a deep topical understanding in at least one area and region of the MacMillan Center's programs and be exceptionally well versed in crafting communications strategies, materials, and donor appeals, reports, and/or grant applications for global and regional audiences. S/he will further be experienced with leading conversations with at least one major audience including but not limited to senior politicians, practitioners, donors, and/or academics and stewarding relationships with these audiences to advance the goals of an institution. S/he will bring global academic opportunities to the New Haven community, support research communications and influence with global and regional policymakers and practitioners, and provide connections and external relations expertise to senior university officials on their international trips and university sponsored symposia/conferences.

With a substantial degree of independence and initiative, the Senior Director will conceive, develop, and lead implementation of engagement activities while giving related direction and support to the unit's various programs and their goals. 2. Directs a team of managers and support staff to execute all unit communications, donor reports and proposals, and support the various programs with their engagement activities. 3. Works effectively and collaboratively with the Unit leadership across Yale to coordinate communications, fundraising, and outreach opportunities with other collaborating units to maximize Yale's influence in academic circles. 4. Develops and implements long-term goals and objectives to measure and achieve the successful outcome of engagement efforts. Develops a framework to assess the strengths of the strategies and to identify areas for improvement. Responsible for measurements of grant success and designing related evaluations. 5. In close collaboration with the unit Leadership, manages fundraising, grant writing, and grant reporting activities. Collaborates with development and faculty grant management teams to identify and evaluate current and potential future funding sources, review draft proposals, oversee submission of grants and contracts for program support, including annual reports and content area sections of grant applications. 6. Ensures that activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization to effectively support unit strategies. Documents and recommends structural or programmatic changes to enhance the mission and activities of the center. 7. Designs and manages all communications including but not limited to media and social media engagement, the development of websites and policy briefs, videos, and other new media. 8. Designs and oversees outreach teams - either directly or indirectly depending on the program - to support bringing academic opportunities to the local community and to support research communications and influence with policymakers and practitioners. 9. Identifies top internal and external stakeholders to establish and steward relationships with governments, universities, businesses, and other institutions. 10. Meets with key individuals to develop goals related to research and programming associated with institutional partnerships. These may include MOUs or more informal engagement in events. 11. Travels to expand programing and invigorate new collaborations with partners including setting itineraries for senior Yale administrators. 12. Supports the planning efforts related to hosting donors and dignitaries with high-profile leaders and alumni, virtually and in person. 13. Performs other duties as required.Required Education and ExperienceMaster's degree in international relations, development, public policy and administration, regional or area studies, or related field and a minimum of eight years of relevant experience in global research communications, policy engagement, external relations, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Required Skill/Ability 1:Demonstrated experience cultivating and closing major gifts and/or grants for related work. Experience brokering partnerships with universities, bi and multilateral institutions, and/or donors.Required Skill/Ability 2:Existing programmatic or academic experience in more than one area of MacMillan topical inquiry and region, including language and cultural competence in that area/region. Comfort and experience in representing the interests of an organization in high level.Required Skill/Ability 3:Demonstrated experience designing and leading multicultural communications efforts and building inclusive communities of belonging.Required Skill/Ability 4:Excellent organizational, planning and project management and implementation skills. Proven success in strategic planning and developing projects from conception to completion. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with exceptional attention to detail.Required Skill/Ability 5:Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
