Job Description:

KEES has been exclusively retained by Community Food Navigator in its search for a Project Executive Director. -- Community Food Navigator is a startup, fiscally sponsored, non-profit project that exists to support people, communities, and organizations to connect and collaborate based on their shared interest in local, accessible, and healthy food for all. The people doing the work will guide the development and use of resources and tools. It is a network-driven resource hub intended to support community-driven food system practitioners who set priorities and steward solutions based on their lived experiences. -- Community Food Navigator seeks an entrepreneurial yet pragmatic risk-taker to evolve the project and early-stage work to its next level. The Project Executive Director (PED) will need to be comfortable working in a role that can be both complex and demanding, balancing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously. The PED has an opportunity to make decisions, shape, drive and activate the strategies to advance this project and direct the execution of community-stewarded plans and programs in service to that mission. The PED will be able to influence and adapt the structure of the team of 6 people. To ensure the project remains centered on the perspectives of Black, Brown, and Indigenous Contributors and allies in support of food equity and justice, the project convenes a Community Steward Ring, currently made up of 14 people representing 11 organizations. The project is also supported by a team of consultants who are subject matter experts supporting communications, governance, website, and app development. The PED works closely with and reports to the Project---s Founding Advisory Board and is employed by its fiscal sponsor. -- Some requirements include:

  • Experience and skill in managing decision-making and collaboration across multiple stakeholders and relationships, and in leading with influence versus authority.
  • Track record in forecasting and financial management (e.g., P&L), including building budgets and financial models to pace growth and shape structure.
  • Demonstrated success in building strong and productive cross-functional work teams focused on building a culture of support, inclusion,--and belonging.
  • Strong analytic and strategic-thinking skills, demonstrated ability to create, implement, and monitor plans and then translate those plans into goals and concrete strategies.--
  • Seven years of relevant work experience that may include some combination of sustainable urban agriculture, management consulting, nonprofit leadership, community building and economic development, public health, library sciences, information systems and management, human-centered design, business, and--public policy.
  • Master---s degree preferred, in nonprofit administration, community organizing, business, agriculture, or information management and analysis at a systems level.
