None - Not included in the union (Yale Union Group) Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day) Searchable Job Family Facilities Total # of hours to be worked: 40 Position Focus: The Deputy Director, Facilities Operations will be responsible for management and oversight of Custodial, Grounds, Physical Plant and/or Utilities Operations at one or more Yale campus locations as well as off-site University locations / properties.

Compliance and Alignment: Ensure policies and procedures are developed, implemented, and managed consistently across all operational units. Focus on efficiency and utilization of appropriate Industry and University tools / resources. Safety: In partnership with the University Office of Environmental Health and Safety, review, update and develop as necessary safety policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures. Ensure that safety initiatives comply with legal requirements and are implemented across all operational units.

Resource Management: a. Labor relations with Union b. Hiring and performance management of exempt and non-exempt staff c. Training and Growth (both Union and Professional staff) d. Accountability: Creating an organizational culture that embraces continuous improvement as well as personal accountability at all levels e. Customer Service and University stakeholder engagement .

High Performance and Resiliency: Develop, refine, and implement O&M best practices to achieve high performance of building / distribution / power plant systems and equipment. Continuously improve operations to increase campus resiliency with respect to University growth and programs as well as external hazards from environmental impacts and other factors. Planning & Future Alignment: Evaluate and align organization structure and operational practices to be consistent with University Sustainability Goals, Industry Best Practices and Technological Improvements to Systems and Equipment. Infrastructure Renewal and Upgrades: Reviews and develops condition assessments of all University infrastructure and building components. Develops scope and prioritization for upgrade, modification and/or replacement to maintain integrity and proper operation of building systems and attributes. Collaboration: Maintain and strengthen relationship and interface with Engineering and Project Management. Additionally, manage interface and development of key relationships with other Yale Departments as required. 1. Directs one or more functional areas within an administrative department of the University and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. 2. Directs analytic and research support for educational policies and planning and develops and approves administrative policies affecting assigned functional areas of the University. 3. Directs and establishes parameters for major projects for the department and University. 4. Interprets federal policies and regulations and educates staff and administration about regulations, restrictions, and the legal responsibilities of the University. 5. Directs and implements policy and program modifications and develops standards to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. 6. Develops and administers an operating budget for the assigned department consistent with University policies and procedures. 7. Develops cost savings objectives and goals; authorizes major purchases and negotiates contracts that range from routine to complex in nature. 8. Establishes and implements long- and short-range goals for the functional area consistent with University goals and objectives. 9. Directs the development of related automated systems to support the function; determines office policies and procedures for use of automated systems. 10. Directs the evaluation and selection of vendors and negotiates contract details including work steps and pricing with the vendors on behalf of the assigned functional area. 11. Works with internal and external contacts to solve problems that range from routine to complex in nature. 12. Represents the University in discussions and negotiations with various governmental agencies. 13. Directs a staff of exempt and nonexempt employees. 14. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in related field. Ten years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Skill/Ability 1: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build strong client relationships and work in concert with others to accomplish goals and objectives Required Skill/Ability 2: Ability to work on a senior team as a listener, contributor, collaborator, mediator and advocate interacting with all constituencies internal and external. Required Skill/Ability 3: Superior customer service orientation, self initiative, and the ability to take charge and drive initiatives through to completion. Required Skill/Ability 4: Excellent project management skills. Required Skill/Ability 5: Demonstrated ability leading, managing and coaching direct reports. Demonstrated experience counseling and advising management teams on leadership directives. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Working in higher education, campus based, environment. Facilities Management Certification or similar. Union experience.
