Grapevine Technology is a recruiting firm focused on quality candidate placement with high profile client companies. Our insurance client in New Haven, CT needs a Director of Financial Reporting for their financial department. The company is primarily working remotely during the Covid pandemic. However, there will be SOME temporary working hours in the office for the person selected during a training period. All pandemic safety protocols will be observed. Once the training period is complete, work will be performed remotely until the offices reopen once it is determined to be safe. Individual MUST be able to work on site in New Haven when required. Local candidates strongly preferred!MUST have a CPA. MUST have insurance experience. MUST have supervised staff directly.MUST be a US Citizen or have a Green Card. No sponsorship is available.TO APPLY SEND RESUME WITH CONTACT INFO TO RESUMES@GRAPEVINETECHNOLOGY.COMSummary of PositionResponsible for assisting with oversight of all Accounting Department activities, including general accounting, accounts payable, investment accounting, and financial statement preparation. Assists with proper recording of the assets, liabilities, income and expenses for the company and its affiliated entities. Responsible for the preparation of all financial reporting to the company's Officers and Directors and to various regulatory agencies. Assists with oversight of the administration of software systems including Workpaper manager, securities accounting, and the mortgage loan systems. Assists with monitoring, assessing, and applying accounting changes under U.S. GAAP, Statutory accounting and IFRS accounting for Canadian insurance operations. Key interface with the external accounting firm for year-end audits and tax return preparation for all entities.Requirements* Oversees the activities of the Department including directing, advising, reviewing and managing direct and indirect reports; makes recommendations on hiring, performance appraisals and related employment issues. * Responsible for preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports for senior management. Prepares specialized accounting reviews for senior management. Provides recommendations for strategic changes to financial/accounting operations, challenges current operations to find better approaches and enhances programs and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.* Responsible for the preparation of quarterly and annual statement filings for the Order as well as quarterly reporting for the affiliated entities; and assist with preparation of tax returns for all entities* Assists with monitoring, assessing, and applying accounting changes under U.S. GAAP, Statutory accounting and IFRS accounting.* Trains or provides appropriate training for employees; coaches, provides feedback, counsels and motivates employees.Oversees the process of preparing for and assisting the internal and external auditors, including preparation of the quarterly Model Audit Rule (MAR) testing required.BenefitsAll company benefits including reasonable cost medical for individual and family, both a 401K and company paid pension plan, paid time off, etc.
