Job purpose

The Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the clinical support department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and policies that govern FHCHC.

Duties And Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing helps to manage all the services provided by the nursing personnel of the Center and supports the overall mission of the nursing department. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees and directs the process for Nursing Department Recruitment (recruitment, selection, hiring, onboarding, and orientation).
  • Assist the DON in determining appropriate staffing levels across all FHCHC sites.
  • Maintains nursing staffing levels per the Department of Nursing Staffing Plan. Revises and keeps Nursing Department Position Control current.
  • Coordinates the recruitment process for staff-level positions (Nursing/Medical Assistants).
  • In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, oversees the orientation and onboarding process of nursing staff.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with Nursing School Affiliations.
  • Reviews and evaluates the performance of nursing staff performs on the spot coaching and guidance for Nurse Managers and staff.
  • Working in collaboration with HR, coaches, and supports the Nurse Manager with staff counseling and disciplinary process.
  • Acts as a resource to Nurse Managers in managing daily and ongoing clinical scheduling activities.
  • Organizes and facilitates regular meetings of the nursing department; maintains and distributes meeting minutes and follows up on issues in a timely fashion.
  • Oversees ongoing training and staff development for Nursing Department, including annual competency program, standards development, and performance improvement activities.
  • Keeps abreast of current Nursing Research and implements best practices within the department.
  • Works collaboratively within the FHCHC management group, representing the Nursing Department's interest and promoting patient-centered care.
  • Ensures nursing department is compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Seeks out learning and continuing education opportunities to enhance professional growth.
  • Maintains community-level relationships, representing FHCHC in community activities as required.

    Qualifications

    BSN required; MSN or related field preferred; three to five years of ambulatory care experience, preferably in a federally qualified health center setting, is required. Prior nurse manager experience and leadership skills including the ability to motivate & supervise is a must.

    The selected candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Current experience with an electronic medical record (EPIC is highly desirable). Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, PPT, Excel, Word).

    Spanish speaking strongly preferred.

    OSHA Status:

    Category II-Increased Risk Position

    Potential exposure to hazardous waste and bloodborne pathogens, clinical setting.

    Physical requirements:

    Physical Demands: Requires walking, bending, sitting, standing, writing, reading, telephone use, data input into a computer, pulling medical records,

    Mental Demands: Ability to cope with continuously changing priorities under potentially stressful conditions

    Manual Dexterity Required: Ability to use a keyboard, telephone.
