The Manager role is within an early childhood classroom and is responsible for planning and executing developmentally appropriate practice for mixed age groups of infants and toddlers, or preschool aged children. The Manager leads one or more classrooms, supervises and conducts performance management for teaching teams including Teachers, Teacher Assistants and Substitutes.

• 1.--The Manager role is within a early childhood classroom and oversees the plans as well as coordinates and implements classroom strategies to meet the physical, emotional, social and educational needs of a family grouping of children aged three (3) months to thirty-six (36) months, or three (3) years to five (5) years in accordance with Center policy, CT Department of Public Health and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation standards.
• 2.--Provides guidance to staff to ensure an integrated, harmonious environment for the children and their families.
• 3.--Conducts ongoing performance management for teaching teams and floating teaching staff including goal setting conferences and timely completion of mid-year and annual performance reviews. Develops performance improvement plans with direct reports in order to grow employees.Clarifies expectations and holds direct reports accountable.
• 4.--Mentors other teaching staff as appropriate.
• 5.--Participates in the interviewing and selection of Teachers and Teacher Assistants.
• 6.--Facilitates close contacts between staff and families for daily communication about child and Center as well as on going written reports. Responsible for family conferences at least twice annually. Conducts family/child intake interviews with the Director or Assistant Director. Must attend family meetings and other center functions when possible.
• 7.--Participates in the training of head teacheers, teachers, teacher assistants, substitutes, volunteers, interns, fellows and students in field placements.
• 8.--Monitors written daily records, classroom portfolio, regular curriculum plans, individual child assessments, and parent communications
• 9.--Participates regularly in staff and professional projects, committees and meetings. Attends a minimum of twenty-one (21) hours early childhood workshops per year. Attends all required management meetings and trainings.
• 10.--Maintains complete awareness of all children's needs and responds in an effective, timely, and developmentally appropriate manner.
• 11.--Observes, supervises classroom and staff throughout the day and communicates appropriate information to supervisors, children, parents, and co-workers.
• 12.--Monitors the teaching team in responsibility for maintenance of common areas on a rotating basis and the ongoing maintenance of the classroom environment including cleaning of toys, maintaining supplies, and creating an orderly learning environment.
• 13.--Rotates the role of 'manager in charge' during the absence of the Director and Assistant Director.
• 14.--Participates as an Early Childhood Education professional through NAEYC, or other early childhood organization membership, and ECE advocacy within the community.
• 15.--Responsible for maintaining health and safety standards in the program in accordance with Hospital Infection Control, JCAHO and CT State Licensing Regulations. Responsible for maintaining ITERS/ECERS and NAEYC Accreditation standards including the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.Qualifications EDUCATION
  Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education or Elementary Education with course work in child development and learning of children birth through kindergarten. Master's Degree preferred. A Bachelor degree in any other field AND 12 credits or more in early childhood or child development from any college may also be accepted with the successful completion of the Connecticut Early Childhood Teaching Credential (ECTC) Individual Review Route within one year of employment.
  EXPERIENCE
  Three(3) years experience in management of classroom(s) and engagement in staff professional development. Five(5) to Eight (8) years' experience in the teaching and care of very young children, or equivalent combination of experience and/or training. Administrative and managerial experience preferred including performance management, finance, budgets,long range planning and goal setting.
  LICENSURE
  CT ECTC preferred
  SPECIAL SKILLS
  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of principles of child development and child behavior. First aid, CPR, Medication administration training. Managerial skills. Knowledge of budget process, windows, excell.
  PHYSICAL DEMAND
  Ability to climb up and down stairs, and move from a seated position on the floor to an upright stance. Able to lift 45 lbs.
