$132,887 Responsibilities Manage bus maintenance program of
operating deport or central maintenance facility during assigned
tour of duty. Ensure a safe facility and efficient work operation,
enabling the depot to provide a safe, clean & reliable mode of
transportation for the riding public. Implements personnel schedule
variations, maintains acceptable bus availability, and administers
discipline and labor relations activities. Directs hourly staff in
day-to-day Facilities and equipment maintenance activities. Within
Maintenance, responsible for planning & managing research into bus
technology for improving safety, reliability, customer satisfaction
and productivity; assist in developing and implementing
productivity improvements and promoting safe working conditions by
analyzing work process, tools & equipment. Assist or develop bus
specifications and inspect vehicles and vendor work; perform
research and development for new vehicle technologies. Develop
and/or revise maintenance procedures and bills of materials to
incorporate improved work practices and new technology; assist
legal and conduct accident investigations. Develop system-wide
fleet plans and coordinate warranty work. Provide maintenance and
technical training to maintenance personnel. Additional
Responsibilities Manage all maintenance functions during a tour of
duty in a maintenance facility. Ensure safe, clean and efficient
bus service. This includes directing hourly staff in day-to-day
facilities and equipment maintenance activities. Develop technical
specifications, evaluations for new bus procurements. Research &
analyze Buses equipment, procedures, practices, etc. Work closely
with maintenance staff throughout the department to determine the
efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance operations Provide
maintenance I technical training and end-user support for hourly,
supervisory and managerial personnel in depots and shops. Train
staff in the effective use of Spear and other technology systems.
Manage a full range of labor relations activities; develop work
assignments for maintenance line supervisors; implement discipline;
develop rule compliance criteria; assist in preparation for labor
negotiations and hourly and supervisory work picks. Develop
procedures and work practices. Assist in the implementation of new
procedures throughout the department. Develop and implement
strategies to reduce cost and increase productivity. Recommend
overtime for hourly/supervisory personnel, as needed, to meet
performance goals. Make recommendations with the goal of improving
safety, reliability, customer satisfaction and productivity of Bus
maintenance operations. Develop fleet, scrap plans and coordinate
warranty to support bus operations. Perform testing on equipment,
components, procedures and standards. Coordinate vehicle /
equipment studies and produce related reports. Develop personnel to
provide for a properly maintained fleet and for upward mobility.
Determine training needs of supervisory and hourly personnel.
Research technical advancements in the industry and assess the
likelihood of successful implementation at NYC Transit/MTA Bus.
Assist in the introduction of these developments into maintenance
operations Education and Experience 1. Six (6) years of related
experience, including a minimum of two (2) years of managerial/
supervisory/ project management experience. Desired Skills
Knowledge of vehicular maintenance operations, including personnel
development, work prioritization overtime distribution and
preventative maintenance procedures. Knowledge of heavy-duty
revenue vehicles, new bus technologies, and the maintenance
procedures/standards required to maintain them, including an
understanding of specifications Knowledge of diesel and compressed
natural gas engines, fuel systems and emissions controls, mandated
emission requirements and engine configuration procedures.
Knowledge of vehicle systems and components Knowledge of design,
manufacturing processes, product testing and maintenance procedures
Ability to design testing systems and procedures based on
engineering specifications BA in engineering or related field
