Job PurposeResponsible for the engineering, design, and technical oversight during the construction of projects relating to the gas transmission and distribution networks located in NYC (Staten Island, Brooklyn & Queens) as well as Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk County).
Key Accountabilities

  • Perform engineering and design for natural gas construction projects which may include distribution/transmission pipelines, bridge/highway/waterway crossings, remote operated valve installations, check valve installations and metering facilities.
  • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Ability to interpret and adapt relevant international and national industry practices, codes and standards related to the Natural Gas system.
  • Provides insight and input on opportunities for enhancing standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Identify, specify, review, and approve materials to be used in association with gas construction projects.
  • Identify and acquire the necessary permits, licenses, and land rights associated with the project.
  • Collaborate with Gas Operations, Gas Asset Owners and Gas Engineering in the development of procedures to support the engineering and design of gas facilities in accordance with company and regulatory requirements including all safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Compile and review as built documentation for accuracy and incorporation into mapping and document management systems. Assist in the Traceable, Verifiable, Complete (TVC) process with the asset owners as part of project record retention.
  • Participate and/or lead inter-regional projects activities. This may require travel outside of assigned service territories.
  • Participate in Storm restoration activities or other system emergencies as called upon.
    • Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline is required. 0-1 year of engineering, design or project management experience.
    • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam is preferred. Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is preferred.

    • Basic understanding of the application of design and construction standards, engineering drawings, and underground construction methods and procedures.
    • Basic knowledge of OSHA, PHMSA, and applicable State regulations.
    • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects within budget and time constraints
    • Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with a diverse group of company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.
    • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. including the ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally to the organization.
    • Must have a valid driver's license with safe driving history.
